14 BCHL Prospects Named to BC Major Midget League All-Star Game:

The BC Major Midget League announced its All-Star rosters today and of the 42 players selected, 14 of them are featured on reserve rosters in the BC Hockey League. A number of players have even played as affiliate players on BCHL teams while a number of them have yet to skate in a BCHL game.

The Prince George Spruce Kings have the most reserve roster players featured with four. They are D Stephen Penner (95) – Cariboo Cougars, F Braiden Epp (96) – Cariboo Cougars, F Liam Blackburn (96) – Cariboo Cougars, F Ryan Forbes (95) – Cariboo Cougars.

The Coquitlam Express and West Kelowna Warriors are next, with three reserve roster players selected.

For the Express, it’s D Dalton Yorke (96) – Vancouver NE Chiefs, F Mathew Barzal (97) – Vancouver NE Chiefs, F Eric Margo (95) – Vancouver NW Giants.

For the Warriors, it’s F Brett Mennear (96) – Okanagan Rockets, F Branden Wagner (96) – Okanagan Rockets, G Brenden Mills (95) – Okanagan Rockets.

Powell River, Penticton, Vernon, and Victoria each have one of their reserve roster players who will play in the All-Star Game. For the Kings, it’s F Jarid Lukosevicius (95) – Vancouver NW Giants, for the Vees, it’s F Josh Blanchard (96) – Okanagan Rockets, for the Vipers, it’s D Alex Gran (95) – Okanagan Rockets, and for Victoria, it’s F Cole Pickup (96) – South Island Royals.

The All-Star Game itself is on Friday, January 18th at 7:30 pm at the Langley Events Centre. It’s the start of what’s been billed as the Major Midget League weekend, which will see ten of the league’s eleven teams face off in two doubleheaders. The match ups are: Greater Vancouver Canadians vs. Cariboo Cougars, Vancouver North West Giants vs. Thompson Blazers, Fraser Valley Thunderbirds vs. Okanagan Rockets, Valley West Hawks vs. Kootenay Ice and Vancouver North East Chiefs vs. North Island Silvertips.  The South Island Royals are off that weekend.

There will no doubt be a ton of NCAA, WHL, BCHL, NHL scouts and more in attendance during the weekend. If I get a chance, I’ll definitely try to get out to Langley to catch some of the games.
